Holy shit, the ending to Sphere is (apparently) awful in this timeline.
By far the worst case of Mandela effect I've had...
Watching Sphere with my girl, and right when she decides to put it on I go 'yeah but do you remember what the sphere actually is?'
She doesn't. I say 'Good, cause that's like the most mind blowing part.'
Then we watch the movie, and it's not mind blowing. It's in fact not explained, at all, what the sphere actually is.
I hadn't seen the movie in like 15 years, but I swear to god, somewhere towards the end they find a USA logo on the Sphere, and discover that it was a government project gone bad, and led to time traveling because that's what the crew's 'wildest dreams' were.
Why the hell else would the English-speaking craft be on the bottom of the ocean? What would that have to do with anything? Why would 13 year old me able to come up with a more plausible conclusion than what actually happens? It's apparently not in the book either...
Because I didn't come up with it. It's maybe not perfect, but it's what happened, because it just makes so much more sense.
